Our project seeks to answer the call for redeveloping the ODOT Blocks in the Central Eastside of Portland, Oregon by creating a high-tech, community-centered space. By integrating work, shopping, communal gathering spaces, and areas of respite into a singular location, Apto aims to meet the needs of Portlanders while also preparing for the future of the city. In view of the redevelopment underway in the area, we hope to set an example for sustainability and community with our project in the Central Eastside.
APTO – The Central Eastside in Portland, Oregon is going through a rejuvenation and redevelopment phase. The city is shifting to include more and more tech businesses, with the Central Eastside often being called the Silicon Forest as a reference to the amount of tech companies moving in. The Oregon Department Of Transportation (ODOT) has owned three lots in the Central Eastside for decades, but have yet been unable to develop them to a desirable level. Now, with Mackenzie Architects and BEAM Development, our project seeks to answer some of these needs for new, innovative spaces to house the incoming tech boom in Portland.
