THE BEAUTY OF BRINGING A PIECE OF LAND LIFE

This design was created to bring something new to a community that needed more beauty. I decided to draw on the unique perimeter of the land and use it to my advantage in order to create an untraditional housing system. I used the Maribor Art Gallery in Slovenia by Stan Allen as my inspiration to create an edgy, colorful, and organic design for the community and those passing by to enjoy. While the design is the perfect art piece it is also a great choice for those looking for a different style home. This unique design carries into the building’s apartments where you will see high angle roofs and triangular skylights.
This project aims to do more than simply create more buildings that fade into the background of the community. It aims to stand out and add a new aesthetic for those driving through the area or those looking for a more untraditional home. I wanted to create both a viable building and a work of art for the community. The piece of land where I chose to build my project had an awkward shaped perimeter as well as many other constraints. However, this gave my project the opportunity to have a distinctive look that flowed along the perimeter. Using the Maribor Art Gallery in Slovenia by Stan Allen Architect as a source of inspiration, I was able to create this distinct new look. To appeal to a larger group of people, the aesthetic of the building continues as you move towards the inside. You will see angled ceilings with triangular skylights that allow for special lighting into the rooms. The outside gives off a pink, purple and yellow shine that is different at each time throughout the day as the sun illuminates it, making for a building that is an attraction.
